Dr. Andrew D. Pearle graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College, where he captained the rugby team. He attended Stanford University Medical School and received multiple grants and awards, culminating in the Dean's Award for outstanding research in Orthopedic Surgery. He trained as a general surgery intern at New York Hospital in 1998, and then completed an Orthopedic Surgery residency at Hospital for Special Surgery. During his residency, he received the Distinguished Housestaff Award for exemplary all around service and an Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) grant for his work on the role of inflammation in osteoarthritis. He was invited to represent Hospital for Special Surgery at the American Orthopedic Association's resident leadership program and was the first recipient of the Helen Frankenthaler Fellowship in Restorative Mobility. When he graduated from residency, he was honored with the Lewis Clark Wagner Award for excellence in research.

As a chief resident at Hospital for Special Surgery, Dr. Pearle performed a traveling rotation at Hadassah Hospital, the only Level One trauma center in Jerusalem. Through this experience, Dr. Pearle gained insight into the orthopedic manifestations of terror attacks; he subsequently gave multiple lectures on the Israeli orthopedic response to mass casualty scenarios and has helped form collaborative research and clinical initiatives between Hadassah and Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Pearle pursued a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery under the direction of Dr. Russell F. Warren and Dr. Thomas L. Wickiewicz. As a fellow, Dr. Pearle served as an Assistant Team Doctor for the New York Football Giants. During this time, he received the distinguished OREF Orthopedic Career Development Award for work with computer assisted techniques in trauma, joint replacement, and sports medicine.

Upon joining the staff at Hospital for Special Surgery, Dr. Pearle founded and became the clinical director of the HSS Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery (CAOS) Center. The purpose of the center is to develop, validate, and utilize surgical navigation and medical robotics in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Pearle's faculty position includes a clinician-scientist appointment with protected time for research in CAOS technologies.

Dr. Pearle has authored multiple basic science papers and book chapters and has presented his research at over 20 national and international meetings. He is a reviewer for Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic & Related Surgery and is on the editorial board of the HSS Orthopedic Website. He is a member of the Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery - International Society, the Orthopedic Research Society, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
